People do have their own fears, a few have a fear or phobia of travelling. This fear of travelling is scientifically termed as Hodophobia. While travelling, or planning a trip, or even thinking about travel, people experience extreme high pulse or anxiety which leads to panic attacks.

I always love travelling to new places, making new friends and getting to know more people. But there was a time when I was suffering from Hodophobia. I was scared of going to the new place. I tried multiple excuses and methods to avoid the trip but then I thought why am I worried?

What is the reason for this fear?

General understanding says it’s the disliking for travel but that is not the truth. There are immense types of causes for Hodophobia. For example, being Acrophobic, you have fear of heights and you need to travel by air; being aquaphobic, you fear from water and you are going on cruise; fear of crowds, pollution, speed, being introverted, anti-social, and so on. There are a bunch of reasons for that.

You experience shivering, crying, sweating, gritting teeth, or even anger. These all are the physical symptoms for phobia you are suffering from.

Here, the most basic cause of Hodophobia is fear of detachment. When you are travelling to a new place, you need to change your previous habits and ways of living and indulge in new surroundings. The attachment to your previous home, friends and place, makes you fragile and when you think about leaving them all, makes you sick.

You can cope with the phobia by re-thinking and finding the positive reason for travelling, get yourself proper sleep, and keep your body hydrated.

People take anti-anxiety medication to overcome this, but I would recommend meditation and dedication towards your living which will make you firm over all fears not only Hodophobia.

Happy Living! Stay tuned!
